Free Content Feeding of Diplodus annularis in Posidonia oceanica meadows: Ontogenetic, diel and habitat related dietary shifts

The gut contents of Diplodus annularis collected from six Posidonia oceanica meadows, half of them disturbed by otter trawling, were analyzed. The diet of D. annularis differed among day and night samples, between fish sizes and between meadows. In trawled meadows, a shift towards planktonic prey was observed (doliolids and planktonic copepods) in small fish during the day, whereas the importance of benthic prey increased with growth during the night and in untrawled meadows.
