Larval recruitment processes of Japanese spiny lobsters: a hypothesis
A hypothesis is constructed that explains the larval recruitment processes of P. japonicus and P. longipes femoristriga in Japanese waters. According to the hypothesis, larvae of the two species which are released in coastal waters inshore of the Kuroshio Current disperse
into (and/or are transported to) the Kuroshio-Counter Current subgyre, re-enter the Kuroshio probably in the region northeast of the Ryukyu Archipelago, and then recruit through the Kuroshio to Japanese coastal habitats of their benthic stages.
