Free Content A Model to Estimate Catches from a Short Fishery Statistics Survey

Download Article:
A model to estimate the catch per fishing unit (CPFU) per trip is developed in this paper based on the following data obtained from a survey applied to the fishermen of an artisanal fishery: maximum and minimum representative CPFU·trip–1, time season started, time when the maximum CPFU·trip–1 occurred and the length of the fishing season. Three methods are proposed to estimate the total catch from the model, depending on the information available on fishing effort. This methodology was tested in some fisheries to exemplify its use and applications.
