Comparative Radular Morphology and Feeding Habits of Muricid Gastropods from the Gulf of Mexico
Radulae of eleven species of muricid gastropods are compared: Murex pomum, M. fulvescens, M. florifer, M. beaui, M. cellulosus, M. recurvirostris rubidus, Muricopsis ostrearum, Urosalpinx perrugata, U. tampaensis, Eupleura sulcidentata, and Thais floridana. Feeding habits
and prey preferences as determined in laboratory feeding experiments can be related to the radular morphology of several of these species. Certain applications of radular morphology to the classification of muricid gastropods are briefly cited.
