Free Content The Sciaenid Fishes of British Guiana

Download Article:
Twenty-five species of sciaenid fishes were collected during field studies in British Guiana. Many are commercially very important as food but little known scientifically. This paper gives a field key for their identification, and records all that is at present known about the natural history of each species. Their distribution and abundance within the area, their food habits, movements, and whether spawning is seasonal, are considered. Attempts to determine growth rates of the commoner species have not yet been successful.
