Electronic Editing and the Author

This article summarizes the results of e-mail interviews conducted with five of the 40 authors whose documents are edited by the author’s technical editing department. The interviews and literature review resulted from attempts to determine how authors felt about electronically reviewing documents that had been edited using a newly introduced electronic editing tool. The article also begins to address David Dayton’s recommendation that studies of editors’ attitudes about and use of electronic editing need to be understood in the context of studies that focus on the authors with whom the editors work.
