In my first message to you as editor in May 1996, I shared my vision of where Technical communication would be heading under my stewardship. In that editorial, I described several two-year goals (including the redesign implemented in August 1997, a revised editorial policy, and an online manuscript submission and review process) as well as longer-term goals that would be completed over five years. The most important of these latter objectives was electronic publication of Technical communication.

Now, four years after my selection as editor, I’m very pleased to announce that STC will be taking its flagship publication online before the end of the year. I’d like to tell you about how we’ve proceeded and what we anticipate in the months ahead.
