Psychotic-like Experiences Associated with Cyber and Traditional Bullying

Objective: In this cross-sectional study, we mainly investigated associations between cyber and traditional bullying victimization and psychotic-like experiences (PLEs). Methods: Students (grades 7-9) were recruited from 5 junior high schools in Hunan province. Results: Overall, 4350 students were recruited. PLE scale scores were associated with cyberbullying (Pearson's r = 0.37) and traditional bullying (Pearson's r = 0.37; both p s < .001). The multivariable logistic regression found that PLEs were associated with cyber-bullying (OR = 3.86, 95% CI: 3.18-4.68), traditional bullying (OR = 2.62, 95% CI: 2.12-3.23), and victimization of both these types of bullying (OR = 7.59, 95% CI: 5.94-9.71). Conclusion: Students who had experiences of cyber or traditional bullying were subject to a higher risk of PLEs.
