Axel Klie sprach in GAIA 2/2010 Zahlungsbereitschaftsbefragungen sowie den darauf aufbauenden Kosten-Nutzen-Analysen ihre Eignung für die ökonomische Umweltbewertung ab. Die Autor(inn)en der Reaktionen in diesem Heft bezweifeln Klies Folgerungen: Diese beruhten nicht nur auf strittigen Einschätzungen zur empirischen Anwendbarkeit einzelner Methoden, sondern auch auf einem Missverständnis begrifflicher Grundlagen der ökonomischen Bewertung von Umweltgütern. Jan Barkmann und Rainer Marggraf zeichnen diese Grundlagen in kritischer Auseinandersetzung mit Klie nach. Nele Lienhoop und Bernd Hansjürgens weisen aus stärker anwendungsorientierter Sicht auf die Nützlich keit der Methodik hin.
