Representing the October 1917 Russian Revolution in Russian School History Textbooks
Historians have made sense of the October revolution in Russia in different ways. These different interpretations reflect the way in which meaning is created in history. How do representations of the revolution by historians compare to the depiction of the same events in Russian school
textbooks? The article demonstrates ideological differences in depicting politically correct historical narratives in Soviet and post-Soviet history school textbooks. These contested and re-invented narratives have significant pedagogical implication for teaching students.
