Deliberative Pedagogy and the Rationalization of Learning

This article explores the idea of imparting standardized forms of knowledge, and instilling into students the basic values of a specific society in order to help them to develop as informed, responsible and democratic citizens. It is argued that national education is being challenged by altered condition in our contemporary world, that the rationalization of learning in terms of imparting and instilling is unsatisfactory, and that we need a more holistic approach to learning in public education in terms of deliberative pedagogy.
