Seed dormancy and germination of Paulownia elongata in response to light, temperature, cold stratifi cation, after-ripening and GA3

Paulownia elongata is an economically important tree species in China. The germination in response to light, temperature, cold stratification, after-ripening and GA3 was tested. P. elongata seeds exhibited non-deep physiological dormancy, which can be broken by dry storage at room temperature, cold stratification and exposure to exogenous GA3. Seed germination was light-induced and 25°C was the optimum germination temperature. Freshly harvested P. elongata seeds treated by cold stratification for about 30 days or dry storage for 165 days resulted in almost complete germination.
