J. Geoffrey Aspin: Bibliophile, Bookseller and Benefactor of the Old Library, Trinity College Dublin
Geoffrey Aspin was a bookseller specializing in French literature and thought of the classical period. He was also a collector of seventeenth-century French theatre, including the works of Quinault and the Corneille brothers, and he sold his collection to the Library of Trinity College
Dublin. This piece briefly reviews some aspects of Aspin the man, gives examples of the rich knowledge deployed in his catalogue and pencilled on the endpapers of his books, and argues that the coverage of this subject area in the Old Library of Trinity College is now amongst the best in the
world.
