Proust and the Pleasures of Lying
Lying is so frequently linked to suffering in À la recherche du temps perdu that its positive aspects often appear muted. This article explores the sensual and intellectual pleasures afforded by the lie and questions whether local connections between lying and artistic
practice can remain valid given the manner in which Le Temps retrouvé develops the cult of the transcendent truth of art.
