Open Access Montherlant's Musical Appropriation of the Colonial Subject: North African Arab, Child and Woman

This article uses postcolonial theory as a conceptual framework to analyze Henry de Montherlant's portrayal of the Other, in terms of music, taking selected examples from his essays, novels and poetry. This study argues that music functions as an expression of identity, but also as a means of appropriation in works situated in a colonial context, as well as in those set in France.
