Climate change impacts and responses in Hong Kong: Vulnerable environment, infrastructure and economy
The Hong Kong Government has been slow in its response to the issue of climate change. With encouragement from Beijing, it is now beginning to consider how to analyse the likely impacts and to frame a response in terms of both mitigation and adaptation. While steps towards a coherent government policy are now being taken, Hong Kong has no comprehensive climate change strategy and no dedicated body that coordinates climate policy between bureaus. It is imperative that the Government take stronger action, especially in light of Hong Kong's particular physical and economic vulnerability to the possible effects of global warming.
