An early corporate response to climate change: A review of a us electric company sponsored joint implementation pilot project
In the decade since the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was opened for signature in 1992, climate change has become one of the most critical environmental issues for both the public and private sectors. Corporations in industrialised countries have been seeking measures to meet the potential emissions reduction requirements, anticipating the ratification of the 1997 Kyoto Protocol—the first binding treaty for national greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The Kyoto Protocol requires industrialised countries to reduce their emissions to at least 5% below 1990 levels in the first commitment period of 2008–12 (Kyoto Protocol (1997).
