Strategic CSR can be defined as a business strategy that is integrated with core business objectives and core competences of the firm and, from the outset, is designed to create business value and positive social change and is embedded in day-to-day business culture and operations.
Indeed, embedding in every business function (more on this later) is critical to a CSR programme being judged as meaningful rather than just window dressing. Not only is having such a strategy the right thing to do, it is also the right thing to do for the business.
