Edition of BENTLEY'S marginal annotations on the ,,Disticha Catonis“ from a copy of the editio Scaligerana of 1598, now in the British Library (shelf-mark 680. a. 17), with explanatory notes and critical discussion. His conjectures, although not always convincing, reveal how difficult to understand the transmitted text often is. Four of his notes, slightly altered, can be found without name in Dutch editions of the 18th century, but the evidence is too sketchy to draw definite conclusions. A collation of four Mss. he added appears elsewhere: in a copy of the editio Leidensis of 1626, held by the Bodleian Library, and among 18th century Dutch scholars. It is likely to go back to NICOLAUS HEINSIUS.
