Aliasing Reduction with a 6th Order Space-Time Variational Formulation

Aliasing associated to the frequency content of the external excitation is reduced with a 6th order space-time variational formulation. The Nyquist's frequency limit is exceeded using Hermite's polynomials with independent field of velocities and discontinuous time derivative of the displacement field. Since the impulse vector of the 6th order space-time variational formulation contains information on the entire time step, the Nyquist's frequency can be exceeded. Numerical examples are reported for moving harmonic forces that prove the advantage of the present formulation for aliasing reduction. This type of formulation could be specially suited for those problems at very high frequencies, as it could be the case of acoustic problems at high or ultrasonic frequencies.
