Exponential Sweep Check Using Hilbert Transform
For checking the time-invariant operating properties of fractional-octave-band filters the new standard IEC 61260 proposes the use of exponential swept sine signals. For this reason it is necessary to prove that the applied signal fulfills the requirement that the frequency increases
exponentially with time and that in each filter band the same amount of energy is applied. It can be shown that the Hilbert- Transform is able to detect small deviations from linearity which are inherent in some generators with partially linearized exponential sweeps. Using such signals will
produce erroneous results when, e.g., a filter bank of a sound level meter is tested using the recommended time-invariant test method.
