A Model for Turbulent Combustion Noise
We validate a spectral model for the fluctuating heat release rate of turbulent premixed flames which can be used in the source term of the acoustical wave equation to calculate the noise emission of turbulent combustion devices. The model is based on an assumed Eulerian model spectrum
of progress variable, on a turbulent combustion model and on a space time mapping which allows to transform the spatial spectrum into a temporal spectrum needed for the acoustical wave equation. The details and the overall performance of the model were validated experimentally on premixed
swirling jet flames using optical and acoustical measurement techniques, which are explained in the paper. The comparison is very good suggesting that the model can be applied in the engineering practice which is demonstrated on two examples.
