Open Access Correction Coefficients for Calculating Sound Velocity Young's Modulus from Resonant

If the simplified differential equation of flexural vibration is used, the values of the sound velocity or Young's modulus calculated by a formula derived from the simplified differential equation are not exact, if a ratio of length/diameter (or length/thickness) of the sample is less than 18. The error can be eliminated by multiplication of the measured resonant frequency with a correction coefficient. Tables of correction coefficients and a formula for calculation of the correction coefficients for the Poisson's ratios 0.15–0.4 and length/diameter (or length/thickness) ratios 2.4–20 (for fundamental mode) and 5–20 (for the 1-st overtone) are presented.
