Modelling Acoustic Surface Waves above a Snow Layer
In a recent article [1] acoustic surface waves have been observed unambiguously above a layer of snow. Surface waves above a layer of polyurethane foam have been modelled in the past, using a model introduced by Johnson-Allard and Champoux. It is shown in this article that the observed
surface waves can be modelled using this model with following parameters: q
∞ = 1.5, σ = 7000 Ns/m4, = 0.81, Λ = 50 μm, Λ′ = 100 μm and d = 0.21 m. The obtained values
for the parameters also correspond to typical values measured for snow. The obtained results are interpreted in view of the movement of the pole in the complex sin plane under influence of the different parameters.
