Fast Multipole Boundary Element Method for Large-Scale Steady-State Sound Field Analysis. Part II: Examination of Numerical Items

The fast multipole boundary element method (FMBEM) is an advanced BE analysis technique that leads to drastic acceleration in processing time with major memory saving. Following the previous paper that specified a setup of FMBEM, practical criteria for the numerical items required for the setup are derived from detailed numerical examinations in order to ensure the accuracy and the efficiency of the method. Furthermore, regarding the hierarchical cell structure introduced in the FMBEM, the effects of the number of cell levels on processing time and memory requirements are investigated. The results give two rough criteria to determine the number of cell levels, which minimize processing time and memory requirements, respectively.
