Influence of Gradients in Inhomogeneous Elastic Media on Resonance of the Plane Wave Reflection Coefficient
This paper considers inhomogeneous solid sediments whose properties vary continuously with depth, lying on a semi-infinite, homogeneous, solid substrate. The plane wave reflection coefficient for this medium has been obtained by generalization of a matrix method. The exact expression for the characteristic matrices in the form of a regular convergent series for each inhomogeneous layer may be found. These matrices with the matrix describing the half-space determine the reflection coefficient. Reflection of the plane waves at the elastic solid layer with gradient of parameters has been studied. Dependencies of the reflection coefficient resonance structures (amplitude and half-width) versus gradient of sediment parameters have been revealed and analyzed. Consideration of behaviour of resonance structures on the plane of two parameters of the inhomogeneous layer and analysis of the dependencies were done.
