Formula for Correction Coefficients for Calculating Young's Modulus from Resonant Frequencies
The values of Young's modulus determined by means of resonant flexural vibration of the sample are not true values if the ratio of length/diameter (or length/thickness) of the sample is less than 18 and the formula derived from the simplified differential equation of flexural vibration is used. The error can be corrected by multiplying the measured resonant frequency with a correction coefficient. In this paper we derive the formula for calculating correction coefficients for the fundamental frequency of the flexural vibration for samples with square or circular cross-section.
