Attenuation Along the Poynting Vector Direction of Inhomogeneous Plane Waves in Absorbing and Anisotropic Solids
The present investigation is concerned with the propagation of inhomogeneous plane waves in anisotropic and absorbing solids. Theoretical calculations show that the wave attenuation along the Poynting vector represents an intrinsic attenuation which depends only on the viscoelasticity
of the solid. Numerical results support and illustrate the fact that, for low attenuation, the particular wave, for which the damping vector coincides with the Poynting vector, can be considered as an intrinsic inhomogeneous wave, in the sense that its damping vector does not depend on the
interface conditions. This is in contrast with all the other inhomogeneous waves.
