Modal Energy Transfer in a Low-Frequency Sound Wave Scattered by Wind Waves in a Shallow Sea

Multiple scattering of the modes of a low-frequency acoustic field by wind waves is investigated for the case of significant bottom loss of sound. Conditions on bottom attenuation, under which the equations for the mode statistical moments are applicable, have been derived. In the case of scattering by wind waves with anisotropic angular spectrum, applicability conditions of the mode spectrum equations are analysed. The shape of the mode spectrum is studied analytically and numerically for the situation where the energy transfer between modes has the character of a diffusion process.
