Ultrasonic Velocity and Attenuation Measurements in Sodium Lead Borate Glasses

Na₂-B₂O₃-PbO glass system has been studied by the ultrasonic technique. The content of oxide has been fixed (25 mol%). The contents of sodium oxide and borate have been varied in the composition range of 5 to 25 mol% and 70 to 50 mol% respectively. The results obtained are compared with the results reported by M. Kodama for xNa₂O (100 − x)B₃O₃ glass system. The comparison has been made to check the effect of lead oxide in Na₂O–B₂O₃ glass system. It has been found that lead oxide contributes to the change in co-ordination number of boron.
