Open Access Ultrasonic Velocity and Attenuation Measurements in Sodium Lead Borate Glasses

Na2-B2O3-PbO glass system has been studied by the ultrasonic technique. The content of oxide has been fixed (25 mol%). The contents of sodium oxide and borate have been varied in the composition range of 5 to 25 mol% and 70 to 50 mol% respectively. The results obtained are compared with the results reported by M. Kodama for xNa2O (100 − x)B3O3 glass system. The comparison has been made to check the effect of lead oxide in Na2O–B2O3 glass system. It has been found that lead oxide contributes to the change in co-ordination number of boron.
