Helmholtz Resonators covered by Foils

In an earlier paper to this Journal the present author described how the favourable features of Helmholtz resonators for practical applications (i.e. possibility of lowtuning with a relatively small constructional thickness) can be combined with the possibility of multiple resonances and of a controlled resonance bandwidth by the application of slotted neck plates. This paper continues the discussion of these aims by the application of a foil which covers an arrangement of Helmholt. resonators with a small air gap between the foil and the neck plate. Such arrangements have been described in recent years in the literature, however with no quantitative description and explanation of the performance.


In einem vorangegangenen Artikel in dieser Zeitschrift, wurde beschrieben, wie man die günstigen Eigenschaften von Helmholtz Resonatoren (nämlich Abstimmung auf tiefe Frequenzen bei geringer Bautiefe) erweitern kann auf mehrere Resonanzen durch die Verwendung gespaltener Resonatorplatten. Dieser Beitrag setzt die Diskussion dieses Zieles fort durch die Anwendung einer Folie, welche mit einem schmalen Luftzwischenraum die Resonatoren abdeckt. Solche Anordnungen wurden in den letzten Jahren in der Literatur mehrfach vorgestellt, ohne dafß dort eine quantitative Beschreibung oder Erklärung ihrer Wirkungsweise gegeben worden wäre


Dans un précédent article de cette revue, l'auteur a montrv L'intérêt de combiner les avantages de résonateurs de Helmholtz (notamment l'accord à basse fréquence et l'encombrement relativement faible) aux possibilités de résonances multiples et de maîtrise de la bande passante des systèmes à double face avant. Cet article presente une étape supplémentaire vers ces objectifs, qui consiste à utiliser une feuille recouvrant une série de résonateurs de Helmholtz, avec une mince couche d'air entre la feuille et la face avant. On trouve la description de tels dispositifs dans la littérature des années récentes, mais sans indications quantitatives ni explications des performances.
