Parametric Sound Radiation from a Rectangular Aperture Source

Finite amplitude ultrasounds of 25 kHz and 30 kHz are simultaneously generated in air from a plane and rectangular aperture source of 24 × 44 cm in size. Not only the primary, but also the difference frequency and its harmonic pressures are measured along and across the acoustic axis, and are compared with the numerical solutions of KZK (Khokhlov-Zabolotskaya-Kuznetsov) equation. The calculation technique is based on the alternating-direction implicit method of a finite difference scheme. The theory and experiment are in good agreement as a whole. Theoretical comparison with a circular aperture source of equal face area and equal source pressure is also presented.


Ultraschallwellen endlicher Amplitude und mit Frequenzen von 25 kHz und 30 kHz werden gleichzeitig in Luft von einer ebenen Aperturquelle von der Größe 24 × 44 cm2 erzeugt. Längs und quer zur akustischen Achse wurden nicht nur die Primärfrequenz, sondern auch die Differenzfrequenz und die Schalldrucke ihrer Harmonischen gemessen und mit den numerischen Lösungen der KZK (Khokhlov-Zabolotskaya- Kuznetsov)-Gleichung verglichen. Die Technik der Berechnung beruht auf der impliziten Richtungswechselmethode eines finiten Differenzenschemas. Im Ganzen sind Theorie und Experiment in guter Übereinstimmung. Des weiteren wird der theoretische Vergleich mit einer kreisförmigen Aperturquelle gleicher Öffnungsflache und gleichen Schalldrucks vorgestellt.


On a émis simultanément des ondes d'amplitude finie à 25 kHz et 30 kHz, au travers d'une ouverture plane rectangulaire de 24 × 44 cm2. Des mesures de pression ont ;amp;#x00E9;té effectuées, non seulement sur les ondes primaires mais aussi sur les ondes différentielles et leurs harmoniques, le long de l'axe acoustique et perpendiculairement à cet axe, et comparées aux solutions numériques de l'équation KZK (Khokhlov- Zabolotskaya-Kuznetsov). La technique de calcul est basée sur la méthode implicite de directions alternées appliquée à une procédure de différence finie. La théorie et l'expérience sont globalement en accord. On présente également pour comparaison les résultats théoriques pour une ouverture circulaire de même surface et de même pression.
