Application of the Method of Moments to Vibration Problems

In this paper, applications of a powerful variational scheme known as the Method of Moments for solving various vibration problems are introduced. The problems are approached from the stand-point of function spaces and linear operators, and a technique for systematically constructing the basis functions is suggested. The application of the technique is illustrated on discrete, continuous and eigenvalue problems associated with vibrating systems.


In dieser Arbeit werden Anwendungen eines leistungs-fähigen Variationsverfahrens, der Momentenmethode, für die Lösung verschiedener Schwingungsprobleme beschrieben. Diese Probleme werden vom Standpunkt der Funktionenräume und der linearen Operatoren angegangen, und es wird eine Technik für die systematische Konstruktion der Basisfunktionen vorgeschlagen. Die Anwendung dieser Technik auf diskrete, kontinuierliche und Eigenwertprobleme im Zusammenhang mit Schwingungssystemen wird illustriert.


Dans cet article nous présentons les applications d'une méthode variationnelle puissante, la méthode des moments, dans la résolution de divers problèmes de vibration. Nous abordons les problèmes en termes d'espaces de fonctions et d'opérateurs linéaires, et nous suggérons une technique pour la construction systématique des functions de base. Nous donnons des exemples d'application de cette technique à des problèmes de valeurs propres et de vibrations de systèmes discrets ou continus.
