Global Characterization of Acoustic Panels at Normal Incidence for Underwater Applications

The knowledge of four coefficients (transmission, reflection, decoupling and anechoism coefficients) permits the determination without ambiguity of the nature and the potential underwater applications of a panel under test. The first step is to measure the transmission and the pressure field in front of the panel, in a tank facility. Then the reflection, decoupling and anechoic coefficients are derived numerically. The method is applied to three test panels at normal incidence in the frequency range 1.5–20 kHz.

Die Kenntnis von vier Koeffizienten (des Transmissions-, Reflexions-, Entkopplungs- und Absorptionskoeffizienten) erlaubt die eindeutige Bestimmung der Art und möglicher Unterwasseranwendungen einer zu prüfenden Platte. Der erste Schritt besteht in einer Messung des Schalldurchgangs und des Druckfeldes vor der Platte in einem Meßtank. Dann werden der Reflexionskoeffizient, der Entkopplungskoeffizient und der Absorptionskoeffizient numerisch ermittelt. Die Methode wird auf drei Versuchsplatten bei senkrechtem Schalleinfall im Frequenzbereich von 1,5–20 kHz angewandt.

La connaissance de quatre coefficients (transmission, réflexion, masquage et anéchoïsme) permet de déterminer sans ambiguïté la nature et les applications potentielles pour l'acoustique sous-marine d'un panneau à tester. La première phase consiste à mesurer dans une cuve acoustique la transmission et le champ de pression devant le panneau. Les coefficients de réflexion, de masquage et d'anéchoïsme en sont déduits par le calcul. On applique la méthode à trois panneaux test en incidence normale dans la bande de fréquence 1,5–20 kHz
