Asymptotic Description of the Peripheral Waves in Scattering of a Plane Acoustic Wave by a Spherical Shell

Results of asymptotic analysis of the Lamb-type waves S0, A0 and the Stoneley-type wave A, generated by an incident plane acoustic wave in an elastic spherical shell are presented. For each partial mode the asymptotic estimates of the resonance frequency, amplitude and Q-factor are in a good agreement with the exact ones. It is shown that for an empty shell it is expedient to use the intermediate background. As such a background a liquid shell is used, which can be obtained from the elastic one with c t → 0 (here c t is the transverse velocity in the elasticity theory).


Es werden Ergebnisse einer asymptotischen Untersuchung der Lamb-Wellen S0 und A 0 sowie der Stoneleywelle A, vorgestellt, die von einer einfallenden ebenen Schallwelle in einer elastischen Schale erzeugt werden. Für jede Partialmode stimmen die asymptotischen Schätzungen der Resonanzfrequenz, der Amplitude und der Güte gut mit den genauen Werten überein. Es wird gezeigt, daß es zweckmäßig ist, für eine leere Schale den “mittleren Hintergrundterm” zu verwenden. Hierfür wird eine flüssige Schale benutzt, welche aus der elastischen durch c t→ 0 erhalten wird (c t = Transversalwellengeschwindigkeit).


On présente les résultats d'une analyse asymptotique des ondes S0 et A0 du type de Lamb, et de l'onde A du type de Stoneley, créées par une onde acoustique plane incidente sur une coque sphérique élastique. Pour chaque partiel, les valeurs asymptotiques estimées de la fréquence de résonance, de l'amplitude et du facteur Q sont en bon accord avec les valeurs exactes. On montre que pour une coque vide, il est judicieux d'utiliser un fond intermédiate. En l'occurence on utilise une coque liquide, qui se déduit de la coque élastique en faisant tendre c t vers zéro (c t étant la vitesse transversale de la théorie de l'élasticité).
