Intermediate Background in Problems of Sound Waves Scattering by Elastic Shells

A new type of intermediate background is introduced, proved and its efficiency is demonstrated in problems of acoustic wave scattering by empty elastic shells. The liquid shell, obtained from the elastic one for c 1 → 0 (here c t, is the transverse velocity in the elasticity theory) is used as a background. It is shown that the standard acoustically hard and soft backgrounds can be obtained from the proposed background as limiting cases. The intermediate background permits one to isolate sharply the resonance components of the partial modes. The formulae for the intermediate background are given for spherical and cylindrical shells. The value of the background is shown in problems of sound scattering by shells of spherical shape for a broad range of the physical parameters of the problem.


Es wird ein neuer Typ eines “mittleren Hintergrundterms” eingeführt und erprobt, und seine Leistungsfähigkeit bei der Behandlung der Schallstreuung an leeren elastischen Schalen wird demonstriert. Die flüssige Schale, die aus der elastischen durch c → 0 hervorgeht (c t = Transversalwellengeschwindigkeit) wird als Hintergrund benutzt. Es wird gezeigt, daß der schallharte und der schallweiche Hintergrundterm von dem hier vorgeschlagenen jeweils als Grenzfall erhalten wird. Der “mittlere Hintergrund” erlaubt die scharfe Trennung der von den Partialmoden erzeugten Resonanzkomponenten. Die Formeln für ihn werden für sphärische und zylindrische Schalen angegeben. Seine Brauchbarkeit bei Problemen der Schallstreuung an sphärischen Schalen wird für einen weiten Bereich der physikalischen Parameter nachgewiesen.


On introduit un nouveau type de fond intermédiaire, et on en démontre l'efficacité pour les problèmes de diffraction d'ondes acoustiques par des coques élastiques vides. Le fond utilisé est une coque liquide, que l'on obtient à partir de la coque élastique en faisant tendre c t vers 0, c t étant la vitesse transversale en théorie de l'élasticité. On montre que les fonds standard acoustiquement rigide et souple peuvent se déduire, comme cas limites, du fond proposé. Ce fond intermédiaire permet d'isoler finement les modes de résonance. Les formules des fonds intermédiaires sont données pour des coques sphériques et cylindriques. La qualité de ce type de fond est démontrée dans les problèmes de diffraction acoustique par des coques de forme sphérique, pour une large étendue des paramàtres physiques du problème.
