Modal analysis was primarily conceived for the mea-surement of mechanical vibrations, although it can also be applied to the study of acoustic fields. On the practical examples of wind instruments such as the flute and bassoon it can be shown that consideration the phase of the acoustic pressure leads not only to a grasping of the most rational of measures, but rather to the capture of other interesting additional informa-tion. From a complete knowledge of all the modes in the interior of the body of an instrument it is possible to determine the distribution of acoustic pressure in the partials of a note for which the frequencies do not coincide with the resonances. The craftsmanship of the instrument will provide valuable information con-cerning the influence of certain structural details on the quality of instruments. Other applications of modal analysis can be well imagined, particularly in archi-tectural acoustics (e.g. the measurement of stationary waves in small rooms), or in the metrology of noise.

Zusammenfassung

Das ursprünglich zur Messung von mechanischen Schwin-gungen konzipierte Verfahren der Modalanalyse läßt sich auch zur Untersuchung von Schallfeldern einsetzen. Am Beispiel der Holzblasinstrumente Querflöte und Fagott wird gezeigt, daß neben einer rationelleren Meßwertauf-nahme zusätzliche Informationen durch Berücksichti-gung der Phase des Schalldrucks gewonnen werden. Bei vollständiger Erfassung aller Moden im Instrumenten-korpus können auch für die Teiltöne eines geblasenen Klanges, deren Frequenzen im allgemeinen nicht mit den Resonanzen übereinstimmen, die Schalldruckverteilun-gen bestimmt werden. Für den Instrumentenbau ergeben sich hieraus aufschluBreiche Erkenntnisse über den Ein-fluß von Bauartdetails auf die Qualitat der Instrumente. Weitere Anwendungen sind z. B. im Bereich der Raum-akustik (Messung stehender Wellen in kleinen Räumen) oder in der Geräuschmeßtechnik denkbar.

L'analyse modale avait été conçue primitivement pour le mesurage des vibrations mécaniques. Mais on peut aussi l'appliquer à l'étude des champs acoustiques. Sur les exemples pratiques d'instruments à vent comme la flûte traversière et le basson, on va montrer que la prise en considération de la phase de la pression acoustique conduit non seulement à une saisie plus rationnelle des mesures, mais encore à l'enregistrement de plusieurs in-formations supplémentaires intéressantes. Par la saisie complète de tous les modes à l'intérieur du corps de l'instrument on peut déterminer la répartition des pres-sions acoustiques pour les partiels d'une note soufflée desquels les fréquences ne coïncident pas avec les réso-nances. La facture instrumentale en tirera des renseigne-ments précieux concernant l'influence exercée per certains détails structured sur la qualité des instruments. On conçoit bien d'autres applications de l'analyse modale, notamment à l'acoustique architecturale (p. ex. le mesu-rage des ondes stationnaires dans les salles de petites dimensions) ou à la métrologie du bruit.
