Interference between direct waves or sound waves diffracted by screens propagating from a source to a receiver and the waves reflected from the ground has considerable influence on the received sound level. The scale of this influence is theoretically considered and in part compared with measured results. The controversial application of the Kirchhoff-theory to calculate the sound attenuation of a screen is studied, and its validity given under certain conditions which are generally fulfilled in realistic situations. Further a clear distinction is given between the sound attenua-tion of a screen and its insertion loss. A measurement procedure based on the single pulse method which enables both to be measured is also given.

Zusammenfassung

Bei der freien und abgeschirmten Schallausbreitung spie-len Interferenzen zwischen den direkten oder den gebeug-ten Wellen und den am Boden reflektierten Wellen eine große Rolle. Der Einfluß dieser Interferenzen auf den Immissionspegel wird theoretisch erortert und zum Teil mit Meßergebnissen verglichen. Die umstrittene Anwen-dung der Kirchhoffschen Theorie für das Abschirmmaß wurde untersucht und dabei deren Richtigkeit unter bestimmten Voraussetzungen, die oft bei realen Fällen gegeben sind, bezeugt. Eine klare Trennung zwischen Ab-schirmmaß und Einfügungsdämpfungsmaß einer Schall-schutzwand ist aufgezeigt, und eine Meßprozedur, basie-rend auf der Einzelimpulsmethode, zur Ermittlung beider Größen gegeben.

Les intérferences entre les ondes directes ou diffractees et les ondes réfléchies par le sol jouent un rôle important dans la propagation des ondes acoustiques, qu'elles soient libres ou diffractees. On établit par la théorie l'impor-tance de cette influence et on la confirme par l'expérience dans certains cas particuliers. On examine la théorie de Kirchhoff et son application (controversée) pour calculer l'atténuation causée par un écran: elle reste valable sous certaines conditions qui sont en général satisfaites dans les situations réelles. Enfin on etablit une distinction claire entre l'atténuation acoustique causée par un écran et sa perte d'insertion: un procédé de mesure, basé sur la méthode de l'impulsion unique, permet la détermination expérimentale des deux grandeurs.
