Speech Transmission Index (STI) represents a great achievement in the objective measurement of speech transmission channels. This paper compares the results of STI measurements and PB-word scores for direct listening in four different halls. The results shown in this paper indicate that objective STI measurements do not necessarily agree with direct PB-word score listening tests for free field situations, as opposed to monophonic headphone listening tests, such as might be appropriate for telecommunications channels.
