Difference Limens of FM Signals

The paper discusses the determination of difference limens for frequency modulated signals (FM). Investigations were carried out for a few selected values of a reference signal and a few modulating and carrier frequencies. Three kinds of modulating signal were used: a sinusoidal signal, band limited noise with a Gaussian distribution, and band-limited noise with a uniform distribution.

It was found that FM difference limens increase non-linearly with the increase of the reference signal deviation. It was also found out that FM difference limens are independent of the modulating and carrier frequencies.

Zusammenfassung

In dieser Arbeit wird die Bestimmung von Differenzschwellen Für frequenzmodulierte (FM)-Signale diskutiert. Die Untersuchungen wurden für einige ausgewählte Referenzsignale und einige Modulations- und Trägerfrequenzendurchgeführt. Es wurden drei Arten von Modulationssignalen benutzt, nämlich ein Sinussignal, ein Rauschband mit Gauß-Verteilung und ein Rauschband mit konstanter Verteilung.

Es stellte sich heraus, daß die Unterschiedsschwellen nichtlinear mit der Abweichung vom Referenzsignal zunehmen. Es wurde ebenso festgestellt, daß die Differenzschwellen von den Modulations- und Trägerfrequenzen unabhängig sind.

On examine le problème de la détermination des seuils différentiels pour des signaux FM (modulés en fréquence). Nos recherches ont porté sur un nombre limité de signaux de référence et de fréquences porteuses ou modulantes. De plus on n'a utilisé que trois types de signaux de modulation: le signal sinusoïSdal, le bruit de bande à distribution gaussienne et le bruit de bande à distribution uniforme.

On a trouvé que les seuils différentiels FM croissant d'une façon nonlinéaire avec l'amplitude du signal qui modifie le signal de référence. De plus ces seuils sont indépendants aussi bien des fréquences porteuses que des fréquences de modulation.
