The Influence of the Edge Effect on the Statistical Absorption Coefficient

A variational technique is used to calculate the pressure distribution on a finite sample of finite impedance, placed on an infinite hard surface, when a plane wave is incident at a certain angle. Good agreement is obtained with measurements in the anechoic room.

In the next stage, the absorbed power of a rectangular patch with known angular dependence of the acoustic impedance is computed in a diffuse sound field and the statistical absorption coefficient is calculated for different sample areas. The numerical method may be of use to compare different reverberation rooms with one another.

Zusammenfassung

Mit Hilfe einer Variationsmethode wurde der Schalldruck auf einer endlichen Probe vor einer schallharten Fläche näherungsweise berechnet, auf die eine ebene Welle unter einem bestimmten Einfallswinkel auftrifft. Es ergab sich gute Übereinstimmung mit Messungen in einem reflexionsarmen Raum.

Anschließend wurde mit dieser Methode, die an einer rechteckigen Probe im diffusen Schallfeld absorbierte Leistung unter Berücksichtigung der Randbeugung berechnet. Mit dieser Methode können verschiedene Hallräume miteinander verglichen warden.

On introduit une expression approachée d'origine variationnelle et on l'utilise pour calculer la distribution des pressions au dessus d'une surface plane rectangulaire, d'impédance finie, déposée sur une surface parfaitement réfléchissante dans le cas d'une onde incidente plane.

Puis on utilise la même méthode afin de calculer la puissance absorbée par un échantillon d'impédance et de dimensions finies, soumis à un champ incident diffus et en tenant compte des effets de diffraction dus aux bords. Cette méthode peut servir à comparer entre elles différentes chambres acoustiques.
