High Frequency Wave Propagation in a Strong-absorbing Fluid, Part II

The classical expressions for sound speed c (ω)and coefficient of absorption α(ω)have been derived for ‘very small’ absorption. In the present paper wave propagation in relaxing fluid is studied under the assumption that viscosity, heat conduction and frequency are not small. Generalized equations for α and (ω) and c(ω) are proposed as the foundations for ‘nonlinear sonic spectroscopy’

Zusammenfassung

Die klassischen Ausdrücke für die Schallgeschwindigkeit c ωund den Absorptionskoeffizienten α(ω)wurden für ,,sehr kleine“ Absorption abgeleitet. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird die Wellenausbreitung in Fluiden mit Relaxation unter der Voraussetzung untersucht, daß die Viskosität, die Wärmeleitung und die Frequenz nicht klein sind. Es werden verallgemeinerte Gleichungen für αωund c(ω) vorgeschlagen als Grundlagen für eine ,,nichtlineare akustische Spektroskopie“

Les expressions classiques de la célérité acoustique c(ω)et du coefficient d'absorption α(ω)reposent sur l'hypothèse d'un fluide trés faiblement absorbant. Ici au contraire, on étudie le cas d'un fluide à relaxation dont on suppose que la viscosité et la conductibilité calorifique ne sont plus «petites», de même que la fréquence. Des équations généralisées pour α(ω)et c(ω)peuvent servir de base à une spectroscopie acoustique non-linéaire.
