Procedures adopted for the analysis of musical sounds depend on the level at which interpretation is to made. The type of information that can be extracted from physical, psychophysical and feature analysis is examined together with the limitations imposed on acoustical analysis by Gabor's information theory. The system of feature analysis adopted is illustrated by the analysis of a number of organ pipe notes. Included is a simplified scheme for assessing the role of the starting transient in terms of early sound, synchronism, dominant tones and duration.

Die Verfahren für die Analyse von musikalischen Schallen hängen von dem Pegel ab, mit dem die Interpretation erfolgen soll. Es wird die Art der Informationen untersucht, die von einer physikalischen, psychophysikalischen und Merkmalsanalyse gewonnen werden können, zusammen mit den Beschränkungen akustischer Analysen auf Grund der Gaborschen Informationstheorie. Das System der hier angewandten Merkmalsanalyse wird anhand einer Anzahl von Orgeltönen veranschaulicht. Die Arbeit beinhaltet weiterhin ein vereinfachtes Schema, mit dem die Rolle des Anfangstransienten bezüglich des frühen Schalls, des Synchronismus, der dominanten Töne und der Dauer beurteilt werden kann.

Le choix des protocoles à adopter pour l'analyse des sons musicaux dépend du niveau de l'interprétation à en faire. On commence done par un examen compartif du type d'information qui peut être extrait de l'analyse physique et psychophysique, ainsi que de l'analyse des traits pertinents, relativement aux limites qu'impose aux analyses acoustiques la théorie de l'information de Gabor. Le système adopté pour l'analyse des traits pertinents est ensuite illustré par l'examen d'un certain nombre de notes de tuyaux d'orgue. S'y trouve incluse une procédure simplifiée pour évaluer le rôle des transitoires d'attaque à partir des notions de son initial, de synchronisme, de durée et de tons dominants.
