On the Time-Average Acoustic Pressure

The time-average acoustic pressure in Eulerian coordinates is an important part of the radiation pressure. It has been dealt with in the literature mainly in two different ways, one of which refers to the general case of a three-dimensional field. These are discussed and compared with each other, and their equivalence in the one-dimensional case is shown. It follows incidentally from the discussion that the familiar radiation pressure results apply not only to sinusoidal signals but also to pulsed fields often encountered in ultrasonic radiation force measurements.

Der zeitlich gemittelte Schalldruck in Eulerschen Koordinaten ist ein wichtiger Bestandteil des Schallstrahlungsdrucks. Er ist in der Literatur hauptsächlich mit Hilfe von zwei verschiedenen Ansätzen behandelt worden, von denen sich einer auf den allgemeinen Fall eines dreidimensionalen Feldes bezieht. Diese werden diskutiert und miteinander verglichen, und es wird gezeigt, daß sie im eindimensionalen Spezialfall äquivalent zueinander sind. Die Diskussion ergibt zwanglos, daß die bekannten Ergebnisse für den Schallstrahlungsdruck nicht nur bei sinusförmigen Signalen gelten, sondern auch im Fall gepulster Ultraschallfelder, der bei Schallstrah-lungskraftmessungen häufig vorliegt.

La moyenne temporelle de la pression acoustique, en coordonnées eulériennes, est une composante importante de la pression de radiation. Les études qui en ont été publiées ont utilisé deux approaches différentes, dont l'une seule concerne le cas général d'un champ acoustique tridimensionnel. On a discuté ces deux méthodes, on les a comparées et on a établi leur équivalence dans le cas particulier d'une seule dimension. De la discussion s'est dégagé incidemment le fait que les formules habituelles pour la pression de radiation s'appliquent non seulement aux signaux sinusoïdaux mais aussi aux champs puisés dont l'usage est si fréquent en métrologie ultrasonore.
