The connection between laser-induced breakdown (LIB) in different liquids and the applied laser pulse energy was investigated. The size of the resulting shock wave can be simply related to the field strength of the light. Although at high pulse energies one may find a shock wave with each laser emission, their number decreases with decreasing laser pulse energy, until finally an energy or field-strength threshold is reached, below which breakdown does not occur.

Distilled water, aqueous salt solutions and D-sorbit (C6H14O6)/D-mannit (C6H14O6) solutions were used for the experiments.

Zusammenfassung

Es wird der laserinduzierte Durchbruch (LIB) in unterschiedlichen Flüssigkeiten in Abhängigkeit von der aufgebrachten Laserpulsenergie untersucht. Der Betrag des resultierenden Druckstoßes kann mit der Feldstärke des Lichtes in einen einfachen Zusammenhang gebracht werden. Findet man bei großen Pulsenergien noch zu jeder Laseremission einen Druckstoß, so nimmt deren Häufigkeit mit abnehmender Laserpulsenergie ab und führt letztlich zu einer Schwellenenergie bzw. Schwellfeldstärke nach deren Unterschreiten keine Durchbrüche mehr auftreten.

Die Untersuchungen wurden für destilliertes Wasser, wäßrige Kochsalzlösungen und D-Sorbit (C6H14O6)/D-Mannit (C6H14O6)-Lösungen durchgeführt.

On a étudié la décharge disruptive induite par laser dans différents liquides en fonction de l'énergie des impulsions laser appliquées. On trouve une relation simple entre les impulsions de pression dans l'onde de choc produite et l'intensité optique du rayon laser. Aux grandes énergies il y aura une onde de choc pour chaque flash laser, puis le nombre des ondes de choc diminue avec l'énergie des impulsions laser pour disparaître totalement quand l'énergie ou l'intensité du champ laser tombe en dessous d'une certaine valeur de seuil. Les expériences ont été effectuées avec de l'eau distillée, de l'eau salée (NaCl) et des solutions de sorbite/mannite dextro-gyres.
