The estimation of the mechanical stress applied to the cochlea during exposure to shock waves produced by weapons in a free-field has been performed by measurements of the displacements of the tympano-ossicular chain and calculations of the volume displacement of the cochlear partition during the first positive phase of the impulse.

This estimation shows no significant difference between impulses and pure tones of the same level as far as the mechanical stress to the cochlea is concerned.

L'estimation des sollicitations mécaniques au niveau cochléaire lors de l'exposition à des bruits d'armes du type onde de choc en champ libre a été effectuée à partir de mesures de déplacements de la chaîne tympano-ossiculaire et du calcul des déplacements volumiques transmis par la cloison cochléaire pendant la première phase d'impulsion positive de ces stimulus.

Cette estimation n'a pas permis de faire apparaître de différence significative entre les contraintes induites par ces ondes au niveau cochléaire et celles entraînées par des sons purs de niveau équivalent.

Zusammenfassung

Ausgehend von der Messung der Auslenkung der Gehörknöchelchenkette und der Berechnung der Volumenverschiebung der Basilarmembran während der ersten Druckphase eines Waffenknalls im freien Schallfeld, wurden die durch diese Art von Stimulation hervorgerufenen mechanischen Schädigungen der Cochlea abgeschätzt.

Es konnte dabei kein signifikanter Unterschied zwischen den cochlearen Schädigungen, welche auf Waffenknalle, und jenen, welche auf Töne mit equivalentem Pegel zurückzuführen sind, gefunden werden.
