A two-dimensional theoretical model was used to describe the wave propagation along rails. It consists of three infinitely long layers representing head, web, and foot of the rail. The cross-sectional profile, which gets lost in this model, was replaced by different densities and elastic moduli of the layers. Using the equations of elastic continua, the propagating modes of such a model were calculated. They were also compared with experimental results obtained from a rail-piece of 1.7 m length in the frequency range 0…12 kHz.

Zur Beschreibung der Wellenausbreitung längs Eisenbahnschienen wurde ein zweidimensionales Rechenmodell betrachtet, das aus drei unendlich langen, parallelen Streifen besteht, die Kopf, Steg und Fuß der Schiene repräsentieren. Das verlorene Querschnittsprofil wurde durch unterschiedliche Dichten und Elastizitätsmodelle der Streifen ersetzt. Anhand der Elastischen Grundgleichungen für feste Medien wurden die ausbreitungsfähigen Moden dieses Modells ermittelt und mit Ergebnissen verglichen, die an einem 1,7 m langen, freien Schienenstück im Bereich 0…12 kHz gemessen wurden.

En vue de décrire la propagation d'ondes mécaniques le long des rails de chemin de fer on a pris en considération un modèle à deux dimensions composé de trois bandes parallèles illimitées correspondant respectivement à la tête, à la tige et au pied du rail. Pour tenir compte du profil de section droite du rail, on a affecté chaque bande de densités et de modules d'élasticité différents. A partir des équations fondamentales des milieux solides continus, on a pu calculer les modes susceptibles de se propager et comparer les résultats de ce calcul avec ceux qui ont été mesurés, dans la bande de 0 à 12 kHz, sur un morceau de rail d'une longueur de 1,7 m.
