Some Considerations on Acoustical Properties of Porous Plates

Acoustical properties of thin porous plates vibrating in a fluid are investigated theoretically. The wave equations for the porous plate and for the fluid layer within the porous plate are derived by taking account of the interactive effects between the solid frame of the porous material and the surrounding fluid. Derived equations of motion for both cases are represented in simplified forms containing only the sound pressures and the particle velocities at both side surfaces just outside the porous plate.

Using the above mentioned results, we make some numerical calculations on the sound absorbing characteristics of the porous plate located near a rigid wall and discussed the coupling effects between the motions of the plate and of the fluid layer.


Die akustischen Eigenschaften einer dünnen, porösen und in einer Flüssigkeit schwingenden Platte werden theoretisch untersucht. Unter Berücksichtigung der Wechselwirkungen zwischen dem starren Rahmen aus porösem Material und der Umgebungsflüssigkeit werden die Wellengleichungen der porösen Platte und der Flüssigkeitsschicht innerhalb der Platte abgeleitet. Die für die beiden Fälle erhaltenen Bewegungsgleichungen werden vereinfacht, so daß sie nur noch die Schalldrücke und die Teilchengeschwindigkeiten auf beiden Seiten der Oberfläche direkt an der porösen Platte enthalten.

Unter Verwendung dieser Ergebnisse werden einige numerische Berechnungen zur Absorptionscharakteristik der porösen Platte bei Aufstellung vor einer starren Wand durchgeführt. Die Kopplungseffekte zwischen den Bewegungen der Platte und der Flüssigkeitsschicht werden diskutiert.


On a étudie théoriquement les propriétés acoustiques de plaques minces poreuses vibrant dans un fluide. Les équations d'ondes pour la plaque poreuse et pour le fluide à l'intérieur de la plaque ont été obtenues en tenant compte des effets d'interaction entre la matrice solide du matériau poreux et le fluide environnant. Les équations du mouvement obtenues ainsi ont été mises sous des formes simplifiées contenant seulement les pressions acoustiques et les vitesses particulates sur les deux surfaces latérales enserrant de part et d'autre la plaque poreuse.

A partir de ces résultats on a pu effectuer certains calculs numériques sur les caractéristiques d'absorption acoustique de plaques poreuses situées au voisinage d'une paroi rigide et discuter les effets de couplage entre le mouvement de la plaque et celui de la couche fluide incorporée.
