Compressional and Shear Viscous Processes in Solutions of Electrolytes in Glycerol I. Investigation of Rheological Properties of Solutions of KCl and NaBr in Glycerol by Ultrasonic Shear Strains

The shear impedance in glycerol and solutions of KCl and NaBr in glycerol was measured at 520 kHz and 29.9 MHz in the viscoelastic relaxation region. The distribution width parameter was determined from the reduced shear resistances assuming a continuous Gaussian distribution of times.

It is proposed based on the cluster concept of McDuffie and Litovitz, to consider the width of the distribution of shear relaxation times to be a measure of the structure making and structure breaking properties of the salts.


Die Schubimpedanzen in Glyzerin und in Lösungen von KCl und NaBr in Glyzerin wurden im Bereich der viskoelastischen Relaxation bei 520 kHz und 29,9 MHz gemessen. Aus den reduzierten Schubwiderständen wurden unter Anahme einer kontinuierlichen Gauß-Verteilung der Zeiten die die Verteilungsbreite kennzeichnenden Parameter bestimmt.

Auf der Grundlage des Cluster-Konzepts von McDuffie und Litovitz wird vorgeschlagen, die Verteilungsbreite der Schub-Relaxationszeiten als Maß für die Struktur-erzeugenden bzw. -aufbrechenden Eigenschaften der Salze heranzuziehen.


On a mesuré l'impédance de cisaillement dans le glycerol pur et dans des solutions de KCl et de NaBr dans le glycerol, à 520 kHz et 29,9 MHz, dans la région de la relaxation viscoélastique. Le paramètre largeur de distribution a été déterminé à partir des résistances de cisaillement réduites, en supposant continue et gaussienne la distribution des durées de relaxation.

On propose, en se référant au concept d'aggrégat de McDuffie et Litovitz, de considérer la largeur de la distribution des durées de relaxation de cisaillement comme une mesure des propriétés structurantes ou déstructurantes des sels étudiés.
