Measurement of Nonlinear Reflection of N-Wave at the Open End of a Circular Pipe

The measurements of reflection of N-wave at the open end of a circular pipe with baffle were made for analysis of nonlinearity of energy reflection dependent upon shock amplitude. We simulated the pressure profiles on the time axis of N-wave impinged and reflected at the open end from the pressure profiles observed at a position in the pipe apart from the open end. The simulation was done for taking account of the propagation behaviour in a pipe with wall effect and nonlinear effect. The nonlinear reflection of energy was discussed by means of integration of Fourier spectrum of waves at the open end obtained by the simulation. The deviation of the observed value from the linear theory was found for a large amplitude N-wave.

Zusammenfassung

Um die Nichtlinearität der Energiereflexion in Abhängigkeit von der Stoßamplitude zu analysieren, wurde die Reflexion von N-Wellen am offenen Ende eines kreisförmigen Rohrs gemessen. Die Druck-Zeit-Verläufe einer am offenen Ende auftreffenden und dort reflektierten N-Welle wurden durch Simulation aus den im Rohr an einer vom Rohrende entfernten Stelle gemessenen Verläufen bestimmt. Die Simulation wurde deswegen vorgenommen, um das Ausbreitungsverhalten im Rohr mit Wandeinflüssen und nichtlinearen Effekten berücksichtigen zu können. Die nichtlineare Energiereflexion wurde mit Hilfe einer Integration des aus der Simulation erhaltenen Fourier-Spektrums der Wellen am offenen Ende diskutiert. Abweichungen der beobachteten Werte von der linearen Theorie wurden für N-Wellen großer Amplitude gefunden.

On a entrepris la mesure de la réflexion d'une onde en N à l'extrémité ouverte (munie d'un baffle) d'un tuyau de section circulaire en vue d'étudier la non-linéarité de l'énergie réfléchie en fonction de l'amplitude de l'onde. Les profils temporels de la pression de l'onde en N à l'incidence et à la réflexion sur l'extrémité ouverte ont été déduits par simulation à partir des profils observés dans le tuyau à quelque distance de l'extrémité. Ainsi on pouvait séparer, dans la propagation, les effets de paroi de l'effet non linéaire. La réflexion non linéaire de l'énergie a été mise en évidence au moyen d'une intégration du spectre de Fourier des ondes simulées à l'extrémité ouverte. Aux grandes amplitudes de l'onde en N on a effectivement observé des écarts par rapport aux valeurs fournies par la théorie linéaire.
